Dr Stacie Tay
Senior Clinical Psychologist
I have more than 10 years of experience across a wide range of NHS psychological services. My particular areas of experience are complex trauma and Post Traumatic Stress,Disorder (PTSD), Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and longstanding relationship and interpersonal, difficulties, including presentations that are complex, overlapping or have developed over many years.
These difficulties rarely sit neatly within one diagnosis or one area of a person’s life. Past experiences, relationships, ways of coping, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing can become closely intertwined. My approach is to understand you as a whole person and make sense of how these different factors may be affecting you now.
My wider clinical work includes depression, chronic pain and other long-term health difficulties, perfectionism, anxiety, grief and bereavement, and low self-esteem.

My Qualifications & Expertise
I completed my BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Nottingham before working as a psychologist at the Institute of Mental Health in Singapore. I subsequently returned to the UK to complete my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London.
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). My career has included primary and secondary care, specialist psychological services and forensic inpatient settings, and I currently work as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within the NHS.
Working across these settings has developed my ability to assess and treat psychological difficulties at different levels of complexity, including presentations that are longstanding, interconnected or difficult to capture within a
single diagnosis.

My experience also includes psychometric assessment - intellectual, neuropsychological and personality - for clinical, medical, legal and forensic purposes. Alongside direct clinical work, I provide consultation to other healthcare professionals and clinical supervision to colleagues.

A particular strength of my work is supporting people whose difficulties do not fit neatly into one category. Trauma or PTSD, relationship difficulties, depression, pain, perfectionism and low self-esteem can interact and contribute to what someone is experiencing.

My Clinical Approach
A strong therapeutic relationship is fundamental to effective psychological therapy, particularly when difficulties are longstanding, linked to trauma or rooted in painful relationship experiences. For this reason, considerable
importance is placed on developing a relationship in which you feel safe, understood and able to talk openly, while also working towards meaningful psychological change.
importance is placed on developing a relationship in which you feel safe, understood and able to talk openly, while also working towards meaningful psychological change.
Rather than starting with assumptions based on a diagnosis, we will develop a shared understanding of what has happened, how you have learned to cope, what may be maintaining your difficulties and what might help things
to change. My approach is integrative, drawing upon evidence-based psychological therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness-based approaches, Schema Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Having a range of therapeutic approaches allows treatment to be tailored when several difficulties are interconnected, rather than requiring you to fit a single model or focusing on one symptom in isolation.
My style is compassionate, empathic and collaborative, combining the safety needed to explore difficult experiences with thoughtful challenge to help people recognise and begin to change patterns that may no longer be serving them.

What You Can Expect From Working With Me
Starting therapy can feel particularly significant when your difficulties have been present for a long time, are connected with painful experiences or relationships, or when previous therapy has not resulted in the changes you hoped for.
Early sessions focus on understanding what has brought you to therapy, what matters to you, and what you would like to be different. Together, we will develop a shared understanding of both the difficulties you are experiencing now and the experiences and patterns that may sit underneath them.
Therapy is not always easy, particularly when working with trauma or longstanding patterns. My aim is to provide the combination of psychological expertise, compassion, consistency, and thoughtful challenge that allows difficult material to be explored safely while supporting meaningful and sustainable change.

"
“I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your help and input last year. It was a really challenging time for me, but I feel so much happier and capable now. Your sessions were fantastic, so helpful for me and although therapy can be tough, I always looked forward to our weekly sessions because I always came away much calmer and more hopeful.”

Why Work With ComposurePsychology and Me
My connection with ComposurePsychology goes back many years. Janine and I have known each other since 2013 and trained together on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London. Several other members of the ComposurePsychology team have also known or worked with me professionally and have been particularly pleased to welcome me to the practice.
ComposurePsychology’s emphasis on thoughtful, evidence-based and individually tailored psychological care fits closely with the way I work. I bring additional depth of experience in complex trauma and PTSD, BPD, longstanding interpersonal and relationship difficulties, depression, pain and perfectionism, complementing the expertise already available within the team.
If difficulties seem complex, interconnected or difficult to put into a single category, that does not prevent us from beginning therapy. We can start by making sense of what has happened, what you are experiencing now, and what you would most like to change.
