Hello! My Name is Dr. Sylvia Fumey, and I am a Ghanaian American, fluent in languages like Akan and Ewe, who has been working with individuals, couples, and families for 18 years in various clinical settings.  I specialise in working with complex life issues, including individuals from different ethnic/cultural and religious backgrounds. I obtained my Bachelors (B.S.) from The Pennsylvania State University, my Masters (M.A.) from Eastern University and my Doctorates (Ed.D) from Argosy University all in the United States.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Throughout my career, I have worked with children, adolescents and adults in Community Based settings, Inpatient Psychiatric unit, Group homes for girls and residential facilities. I am registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the United Kingdom and a Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) in the state of Pennsylvania to practice independently.

In addition to providing counseling, I am also an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California where I adjunct with the School Counseling Department. I also specialise in how the perception and attitudes of individuals from Africa impacts accepting of mental health services. In my current role as the owner of my private practice, I have worked with over 20 clients who identify from the continent of Africa and Caribbean such as Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Togo, Jamaica, and Haiti.

I use several therapeutic modalities such as CBT, SBFT, Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to assist you in reaching your ultimate goal.
