Dr Carmen Ng

Clinical Psychologist

I am a clinical psychologist with experience with a range of clients in Asia and the UK. I am registered as Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist) with the UK Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and as Chartered Psychologist of British Psychological Society (BPS). In my current job, I specialise in helping cancer patients and their families to make sense of the impact of cancer on their psychological wellbeing and explore ways to improve their functioning.

During my clinical training in the UK, I had experience working with people across the age range, including children, adolescents and older adults, and people with difficulties in mental and physical health, including issues related to management with pain and other chronic conditions, cognitive impairment, depression, anxiety, trauma, loss and bereavement. Prior to my clinical training I had experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching at tertiary institutes, as well raising awareness of suicide prevention in different communities.

My clinical practice places equal emphasis on both evidence-based practice and maintaining a client-centred perspective. I aim to create a compassionate and respectful space to work with clients collaboratively to understand, reflect and explore the difficulties affecting their lives. I adopt a range of techniques from ‘third-wave’ Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), as well as adopting psychodynamic and systemic ideas to inform my practice.
